F5J Trophy and NSW State Champs 2024

The 6th Australian F5J Trophy and 2nd NSW State Championships for F5J class gliders were held in Armidale from October 5 through 7. Twenty-six competitors from all mainland states attended. The furthest travelled was Chris Barrenger from Bunbury WA, a large contingent came from SA, and some competitors came from Victoria and Qld. The event was also the last round of selection for the Australian Team to compete at the next F5J World Championships to be held in Cordoba, Argentina late February 2025.

Flying conditions ranged from brutal to brilliant; Saturday had winds close to or at times exceeding the FAI limit and Monday had ideal gliding weather with the occasional sudden loss of lift that makes great pilots make the rest look average at best.

The winners were 1. Marcus Stent (Vic) 2. Nick Chabrell (SA) and 3. Dan Haskell (Vic)
